Based in Washington DC with offices in Chicago, Denver, Dublin, Budapest, Sao Palo, and Vaduz, IGS brings proven experience and successful advocacy to companies and organizations throughout the world.

From 2003-2010, Fred Niehaus was Senior Vice President of Global Public Affairs at Western Union, the global payment services corporation with approximately 435,000 agent locations in 200 countries and territories. As a member of the corporate senior management team, Mr. Niehaus was responsible for developing and implementing strategies to reach Western Union's various constituencies – including legislators, policymakers, regulators, community groups and consumers – while shaping emerging global public policy issues and trends that impacted the company's operations and reputation. Among the specific programs he directed was Hispanic outreach and ongoing consumer protection and law enforcement initiatives.

In 1991 Mr. Niehaus founded and served as President and Managing Partner of InterMountain Corporate Affairs, a Colorado-based Public Affairs firm. In this role, he served as advisor to CEOs and key corporate staff of fortune companies across the United States.

From 1987 to 1992, Mr. Niehaus served as Colorado Governor Roy Romer's (D) Special Assistant for Economic Development and Director of OED. In this capacity, he restructured the state's economic development programs, created a targeted marketing strategy, developed innovative finance initiatives and developed a five-year economic development strategic plan. He was the state's primary negotiator with major corporations. Mr. Niehaus also served as Finance director of the New York-based National Development Council, matching clients with sources of public and private sector capital.

Mr. Niehaus' background includes serving as Deputy Director of Commerce & Community Affairs under Illinois Governor James Thompson (R) and, prior to that, as Public Affairs Director and lobbyist for the Illinois Railroad Association.

He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Farnsworth Group, an Illinois-based architectural/engineering firm; on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce; on the Advisory Board for the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars' Mexico Institute; and on the Advisory Board of the Alliance Partnership, a collaborative initiative with Mexican law enforcement officials that is managed by the Conference of Western Attorneys General. He was presented with the Central American award for Migrant Advocacy and Corporate Social Responsibility in March of 2011. He received a degree in journalism from the University of Iowa in 1978.
